Jeremy Dibble Talk Part 1: Stanford as a Chamber Music Composer

For its Midwinter 2022 festival, Music for Galway highlights a largely unsung hero in music history, Irish composer Sir Charles Villiers Stanford.

While many music lovers may have a passing knowledge of some of his choral music, the breadth and breadth of his vast musical production deserves much greater recognition.

Stanford’s influence and legacy as one of the 20th century’s most important composition professors are hard to overstate. Throughout the weekend, alongside chamber and vocal works from Stanford himself, we hear music from composers who influenced him, but also many composers who studied with him in London.
